Paul was born in Hawaii and moved to the Bay Area when he was 6 years old. He grew up skateboarding and deejaying during his teenage years and found himself playing drums and singing in his high school madrigal choir that opened up some amazing travel opportunities. It wasn’t until college at UC Berkeley that Paul felt like there had to be more to life than the momentary adventures and fun he was drawn to. He also met his wife Linda there, whom he wanted to pursue, so he joined the college worship band as a drummer in hopes she would notice him, and to his surprise, it worked!
Paul majored in History and when he studied Jonathan Edwards and the Great Awakening, he was gripped by the beauty of the Reformed faith and felt a calling to pastoral ministry. After college, he attended Westminster Seminary California, and in 2001 planted a church that is now Redeemer.
Paul’s greatest passion is to see disciples who will make disciples and desires Redeemer to be a multi-ethnic, multi-generational, gospel-centered church where anyone feels welcome to explore, ask questions, receive biblical teaching, and most of all, have transformed lives because of the beauty and wonder of having met Jesus.
In Paul’s spare time you can find him reading, taking in a gorgeous sunset on the beach, hiking and marveling in God’s creation, spending time with his three kids, or discovering a new restaurant with his fellow foodie wife, Linda. He hopes that a San Diego sports team will win a championship before Jesus returns.
